Hokkaido is the main island located in the far north of Japan, away from Honshu Island by the Tsugaru Strait, which is connected to Honshu Island by the Seikan Tunnel. Sapporo is the largest city and also the administrative center of Hokkaido. Sapporo city is the gateway to Hokkaido when traveling from Tokyo and Osaka, featuring a neatly arranged street like a chessboard.
